‘Egiye Jabe Bangladesh’ handed over to President-elect Sahabuddin

Agami Publications officially handed over a book titled ‘Egiye Jabe Bangladesh’ to its writer President-elect and Heroic Freedom Fighter Md Sahabuddin at a function held at Gulshan in Dhaka on Sunday (Apr 16) afternoon. Publisher of the book and freedom fighter Osman Gani and researcher Prof of Humanities and Social Sciences of Pabna University of Science and Technology Dr M Abdul Alim handed over the book to the President-elect, local media reported.

The book ‘Egiye Jabe Bangladesh’, is a motivating writing that covers Sahabuddin's entire life, including his childhood, struggle, politics and the Liberation War, personal life and professional life apart from philosophy.

Besides, some rare and historical photographs of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have been added to the 204-page book.

While speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Osman Gani said the new President has added commemorative inscriptions to this book, such as Bangabandhu's blessings towards him, political activities, Bangabandhu's companionship, political activities of the government led by Sheikh Hasina and her thoughts regarding the country's progress in the competitive world.

Researcher Dr. M. Abdul Alim said the book is an exact collection of articles and writings published at different times.

He said a broad-based identity of his personal life and contemporary political events, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh's Liberation War, as well as the development activities of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government have been recounted in the book.

At the direct call of Bangabandhu, Md Sahabuddin joined student politics in 1966. He was blessed with the affection of Bangabandhu as he got the chance to come in close contact with the Father of the Nation many times.

He played a strong role in field level politics as the president of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Pabna district unit and later district Jubo League and joint secretary of Pabna district unit of Bakshal and publicity secretary of the district unit of the Awami League.

Bangabandhu's struggling life, charismatic leadership, independence struggle and leadership during the Liberation War and his various steps taken as a statesman have been narrated in the book.

Apart from this, the book includes the homecoming of Bangabandhu's daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her struggle to establish democracy, various steps taken as the head of government, building of digital Bangladesh, dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak, construction of Padma Bridge and Metrorail, implementation of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and Smart Bangladesh concept.

Freedom fighter and root-level politician Sahabuddin was born on Dec 10, 1949 in Pabna town. His nickname is Chuppu. His father's name is Sharfuddin Ansari and his mother's name is Khairunnessa. He obtained his MSc degree from Rajshahi University in 1974. Later, he passed LLB and BCS (Judiciary) examinations.

After Aug 15, 1975, he was jailed for three years and subjected to extensive torture as he was involved in lunching in protest against the brutal killings.

After retirement from judiciary service, he was engaged with the legal profession in the High Court. He later served as the Chairman of the Judicial Inquiry Commission investigating the 2001 post-election violence.

As an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner, he showed firmness in dealing with the so-called corruption conspiracy against the Padma Bridge project.

As a member of the Bangladesh Awami League Advisory Council and Chairman of the Central Publicity and Publication Sub-Committee, he also has made an outstanding contribution to the AL.

A non-sectarian, humanitarian, humble and determined man, the brave freedom fighter Md. Sahabuddin was elected as the 22nd President of Bangladesh on Feb 13, 2023. He is scheduled to take the oath at Bangabhaban at 11 a.m. on Apr 24.
