Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has made financial donation to help the underprivileged people with foods in the holy month of Ramadan. The donation was made as part of BGMEA's ongoing efforts to support destitute people of society. BGMEA President Faruque Hassan presented Eid gifts and food items to the disadvantaged people and people with disabilities at Mirpur in the capital on Saturday (Apr 15). BGMEA Director Asif Ashraf and Director of Giant Group Sharmeen Hassan Tithi were also present at the programme, said a press release.

The food and Eid gift distribution program was organized by the Jonochaya Foundation.

"It's our social and moral duty to help people around us who are in need of our support. As a socially responsible organization, BGMEA is committed to contributing to the welfare of the underprivileged people in the society," said Faruque who attended the program as chief guest.

"This donation is a small step of our larger goal of making positive impacts on the lives of people in need," he added.

Faruque also urged the affluent section of the society to come forward and stand beside the destitute people to help them and alleviate their sufferings.

BGMEA has been donating a part of the money budgeted for an Iftar program for its members to different social organizations that work for the destitute people of society.

Earlier, the BGMEA cancelled its scheduled iftar programme expressing deep shock at the fire incident which occurred in Bangabazar recently.
