Devastating fire at city's Bangabazar; 47 units in rescue operation

The fire service received information about the fire at 6:10 a.m. morning and at least 47 units of fire service are working to bring the fire under control.

A devastating fire broke out at Bangabazar market in the capital this morning. 47 units of fire service are working to control the fire. Confirming the matter to media, a duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense control room, said the fire was reported at Bangabazar market at 6:10 a.m.

The cause of the fire could not be known immediately, he said, adding that no casualties have been reported so far.

According to eyewitnesses, owners and employees of the market's shops rushed to the spot after hearing the news of the fire. Many were seen removing goods from their stores and moving them to a secure location.

A joint support team of the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Air Force and a helicopter also working to control the fire, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The fire service said that most of the shops in Bangabazar were burnt to ashes.
