Tamim completes 15,000 int'l runs

Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh ODI captain, became the first batter from his nation to complete 15,000 runs in international cricket during the second ODI against Ireland in Sylhet on Monday (Mar 20). Tamim, who made his debut for Bangladesh in 2007, achieved this feat during his knock of 23 runs in 31 balls. He became the overall 40th batter to achieve this feat. He also leads the runs and centuries list for Bangladesh.

He played 383 international matches so far and scored 15,009 runs. He has scored 5,082 runs in 69 Tests, which is the second-highest among Bangladeshi batsmen. The left-handed opener has scored 8,169 runs in 236 ODIs and is the highest scorer for Bangladesh in this format. In Twenty20 internationals, Tamim has so far scored 1,758 runs in 78 matches.

He is the only batsman from Bangladesh to have a century in T20Is. He also tops the list of centuries as well as runs in ODIs. He also has 14 ODI centuries, 10 Test centuries and is the only Bangladeshi batter with centuries in all three international formats.

Tamim didn’t reach 15,000 runs for Bangladesh alone. He played four matches for the World XI, scoring 57 runs.

While Tamim was run out for 23 runs, Litton Das made 70 and Najmul Hossain Shanto (73) added 101 runs for the second wicket as the hosts pressed on the run pedal. Towhid Hridoy made 49 runs while veteran Mushfiqur Rahim scored the fastest century by a Bangladeshi batter to put his team in a commanding position.

Mushfiqur remained unbeaten on 100 in 60 balls with 14 fours and two sixes, as the Tigers posted their best-ever ODI score of 349/6 in 50 overs.

Graham Hume for Ireland picked three wikcets for 58.
