6th Int'l conference on 'Business and Economics' begins at DU

The 6th International Conference on business and Economics was inaugurated on Wednesday (Mar 1) at Dhaka University's Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the two-day long conference while Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun addressed it virtually as the chief guest, said a press release.

Professor Dr. Fred Phillips from New Mexico University delivered the keynote speech in the conference while DU Pro-VC (Administration) Dr. Mohammad Samad and DU Treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed also addressed on the occasion, chaired by Business faculty dean Dr. Muhammad Abdul Moyeen.

While addressing, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun emphasized the importance of acting decisively and strategically to capitalize on changes in the global economy and support long-term sustainability. He hoped this conference would provide academics and industry professionals a platform to propose innovative solutions to global economic challenges.

Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said with the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country is recovering from the Covid-19 crisis and steering along the Russia-Ukraine war imposed problem of food and energy security.

The VC suggested capitalising on the event for networking and building a foundation for future innovative solutions and a more resilient global economy.

Dr. Fred Phillips, in his keynote speech, discussed the importance of investing in Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) for sustainability in the business world. Achieving ESG might be challenging due to cultural biases, controversies, fear of change, and lobbying efforts.

However, initiatives like educating young people in environmental science, establishing environmental science institutes, and enforcing penalties for fraudulent behavior can encourage sustainable practices.

The inaugural event was broadcasted live on various platforms, including World Talent Economy Forum, PODTV USA, Transhumanist Media, and Swiss Impact TV.

The conference provides a platform for academics and industry professionals worldwide to come together and share their experiences, research, and innovative solutions to address the challenges facing the global economic landscape.
