Primary students to get free milk as tiffin

Students of 300 government primary schools will get milk free of cost during their 'Tiffin' period throughout the year. Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim inaugurated the 'School Milk Programme' in a function as the chief guest on Islamia Government Primary School premises in city's Tejgaon area on Saturday (Feb 25), said a press release.

The government has taken the pilot programme-Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP) at the initiative of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry-to provide milk to government primary schools.

The programme will start in 50 schools immediately, and it will be expanded gradually in other schools across the county within this year.

In 61 districts, milk will be provided during 'Tiffin' period to all students from class one to class five of primary schools selected by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

Milk will be distributed on the days when the schools remain open, the release added.
