Bangladesh Awami League nominated presidential candidate Mohammad Shahabuddin Chuppu on Sunday (Feb 12) paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence in the morning, PM's Assistant Press Secretary MM Emrul Kayas told National News Agency of Bangladesh.
On his arrival at the Ganabhaban, Mohammad Shahbuddin Chuppu was greeted with a flower bouquet by the Prime Minister and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's younger daughter and PM's younger sister Sheikh Rehana.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, AL Presidium Members Faruque Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, and Information and Research Secretary Dr Salim Mahmud, were present.
Earlier in the morning, the Awami League nominated former judge Mohammad Shahbuddin Chuppu as its candidate for 22nd presidential election.
The Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) entrusted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the task of finalizing the nominee for the presidency at its meeting on Feb 7 at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and she picked Shahabuddin Chuppu.
The tenure of incumbent Md. President Abdul Hamid ends on Apr 24.
