Fortune Barishal remained unbeaten in the Chattogram phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after a 13-run win over Dhaka Dominators in Friday's (Jan 20) second game at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Dhaka ended on 160 for four in chase of a 174-run target as Barishal registered a fifth consecutive win in the BPL after losing their opening match. On the other hand, Dhaka, already bottom of the table having one win from six games.
Dhaka fought till the end courtesy of their two in-form batters, Nasir Hossain and Mohammad Mithun, who added 89 runs during their fourth-wicket stand before the latter departed for a 38-ball 47.
Nasir took on the daunting task himself, but it proved too much for Dhaka's skipper, with his unbeaten 36-ball 54 going in vain.
Mohammad Wasim, Chaturanga de Silva and Karim Janat scalped a wicket each for the bowling side.
Dhaka started off their chase well as the openers added 46 runs before opener Usman Ghani departed for a 19-ball 30.
Soumya Sarkar, despite a steady start, missed out once again, scoring 15, while Mohammad Imran also departed cheaply to leave Dhaka struggling on 59 for three inside nine overs.
Earlier, Barishal posted 173 for five after being asked to bat as Iftekhar Ahmed continued his fine form. The hard-hitting Pakistani was unbeaten after scoring 56 off 34 balls with two sixes and five fours while Mahmudullah Riyad was unbeaten on a 31-ball 35. The pair added 84 run for the sixth wicket.
Shakib Al Hasan contributed 30 off 17 balls as well.
