A new trust fund titled ‘Banglar Rumi Trust Fund’ has been established at the Department of Persian Language and Literature of Dhaka University (DU). Out of the income of this donation, every year a meritorious student who will secure the highest CGPA in BA (Hons) examination from the department will be given Gold Medal, said a press release on Wednesday (Jan 11).
To set up this trust fund, Managing Director of Trade Service International Syed Mahmudul Huq handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh to DU Treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed at a function on Wednesday, chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman.
Chairman of the Department of Persian Language and Literature Prof. Dr. Mohammad Bahauddin, Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker and some other faculty members and representatives from Allama Rumi Society Bangladesh were present on the occasion.
Dr Akhtaruzzaman thanked the donor and hoped that this Trust Fund would play an important role to equip the students with the non-communal and humanitarian values.
