India maintained the supremacy as the emerged champions in both men's and women's category of the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Int'l Challenge that concluded on Sunday (Dec 11) at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium adjoining the Bangabandhu National Stadium, local media reported.
In the men's senior singles category, India's shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat emerged champions while his compatriot Mithun Manjunath finished runner-up in the meet.
In the women's singles event, Ashmita Chaliha emerged champions while her compatriot Aakarshi Kashyap finished runner-up.
Malaysian shuttlers Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wel pair emerged champions in the mixed doubles event while Phatharathom Nipornram and Alisa Sapniti pair of Thailand finished runners-up.
In the women's doubles event, Supamart Mingchua and Pattaraporn Raungruengpramomg pair of Thailand emerged champions while their compatriots Laksika Kanlaha and Phataimas Muenwong pair finished runners-up in this event.
In the men's doubles, Pharanyu and Worrapol pair of Thailand emerged champions while Christian Bernado and Alvin Morado pair of Philippines finished runners-up.
After the tournament, the prize distribution ceremony was held at the venue.
Bangladesh Badminton Federation's (BBF) president and Informational Commissioner (Senior Secretary) Dr Abdul Malek distributed the prizes among the winners.
Kamrunnessa Ashraf Dina, vice president of Bangladesh Women's Sports Association, was present there as the special guest.
Tournament and media committee's chairman Ziaul Haque Jewel, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Rokhfar Sultana Khanom, BHF's general secretary Shah Alom Sardar, were among others, also present on the occasion.
A total of 251– 143 men and 108 women – players from seventeen countries across the globe took part in the Int'l meet.
The participating countries of the tournament are India, Thailand, Turkey, Myanmar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Canada, Mongolia, Indonesia, Bahrain, Japan, the Maldives, Iran, Germany, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and host Bangladesh.
After the senior division, Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Junior Int'l Series begins from Monday (Dec 12) at the same venue with 72 players from four countries will take part in the meet.
In the junior division tournament, prize money of U$$ 5,000 (five thousand) will be awarded.
