Advocacy meeting with transgender people held at BOU

An advocacy meeting with transgender community people was held on Bangladesh Open University (BOU) campus in Gazipur on Monday (Nov 28). BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Syed Humayun Akhter joined the programme as the chief guest while 'Diner Alo Hijra Sangha, Rajshahi' organized the meeting, said a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Humayun said everyone has the basic right to live with dignity in the society. He urged the members of the transgender community to be mainstreamed into all levels of the society including education by increasing social awareness. He also urged the government, educational institutions and public representatives to come forward to ensure their (transgender people) inclusion with the mainstream of the society.

BOU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mahbuba Nasreen presided over the event while Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Nasim Banu and Treasurer Professor Mostafa Azad Kamal spoke as special guests.

BOU Registrar Dr Md Shafiqul Alam delivered welcome address at the meeting while 'Diner Alo Hijra Sangha, Rajshahi' presented a keynote on how the BOU can be a potential vicinity for the people from diversified genders.
