By-polls to Faridpur-2 constituency on Nov 5

The by-election to Faridpur-2 constituency, that fell vacant after the death of Bangladesh Awami League presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, will be held on Nov 5. Bangladesh Election Commission announced the by-polls schedule date on Monday (Sep 26). Voting will take place using Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., local media reported.

According to the EC, last date for nomination paper submission is Oct 10 and nomination papers will be scrutinized on Oct 12. Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is Oct 19.

Appeal can be filed against decision of nomination paper scrutiny from Oct 13 to 15 and such appeals will be settled from Oct 16 to 18.

The Parliament Secretariat issued a notification declaring the seat vacant on Sep 11.

Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, the deputy leader of the House, breathed her last on Sep 11 in Dhaka at the age of 87.

The Parliament Secretariat later declared the Faridpur-2 seat vacant on Sep 13.
