State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak on Sunday (Jul 24) laid the foundation stone of 'Natore IT/Hi-Tech Park' in Singra upazila of Natore.

"Hi-tech parks would play an important role in building a smart Bangladesh and turning it into a knowledge-based developed economy from a labour-dependent one," Palak said,

He said this while laying the foundation stone of a Hi-Tech Park in Singra upazila of the district.

This hi-tech park is being built in Sherkol Mauza of Singra upazila at a cost of Tk 190 crore on about nine acres of land under the district level Hi-tech park establishment project funded by India. The construction of the park would be completed within the next two years, said a press release.

It is expected that about 1,000 youths would receive training every year and direct employment opportunities will be created for 3,000 youths, it added.

Among others, Information and Communication Technology Department Senior Secretary NM Ziaul Alam, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Managing Director Dr Bikarna Kumar Ghosh were present, among others.

Palak said that this hi-tech park will turn Natore into a technology-rich district. The junior minister also unveiled the plaque of a modern Cineplex and a dormitory building there.

Doraiswamy said that the IT Park would play a helpful role in creating a high-tech knowledge manpower. He also said that Bangladesh and India have been bound by common history, literature, culture and tradition since the beginning of bilateral relations. He expressed optimism that this bond would be stronger in the coming days.
