Zimbabwe beat SL in Mirpur's 100th ODI

Zimbabwe 290 for 6 (Raza 81*, Masakadza 73, Gunaratne 3-37) beat Sri Lanka 278 (Kusal 80, Thisara 64, Chatara 4-33) by 12 runs

Zimbabwe defeated Sri Lanka by 12 runs in their second tri-nation ODI series matchat the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur in the capital on Wednesday (Jan 17). On the day, the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium touched a landmark as the ground hosted its 100th ODI.

Zimbabwe batted and bowled brilliantly to defeat Sri Lanka by 12 runs in the second match of the tri-nation ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Wednesday. Zimbabwe put up a total of 290/6 in 50 overs after being put in to bat. Opener Hamilton Masakadza and Sikandar Raza scored 73 and 81 not out respectively to give Zimbabwe a strong total after they lost the first match against hosts Bangladesh.

Medium pacer Asela Gunaratne was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers, scalping three wickets for 37 runs in his seven fours. In reply, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets from the start. Though opener Kusal Perera, captain Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera played decent knocks, they did not get enough support from other batsmen. Tendai Chatara starred for Zimbabwe by picking up as many as four wickets. 

In July 2017, Zimbabwe shocked former world champions Sri Lanka 3-2 in a series.
