Jahangirnagar University Day observed

Jahangirnagar University (JU) Day was observed on Friday (Jan 12) on the campus marking the 47th founding anniversary of the university, local media reports said.

The university wore a festive look as former and current students, employees, officers and teachers of the university joined the day long colourful programme with banners, balloons and festoons.

JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national flag and releasing balloons in front of Business Studies Faculty in the morning.

JU Pro VC (Administration) Prof Dr Amir Hussain, Pro VC (Academic) Prof Dr Abul Hossain, Treasurer Prof Sheikh Md Mozurul Huq, former VC Shariff Enamul Kabir, and Professor Mohammad Alauddin, former student also the VC of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, were present among others.

Later, a colorful procession led by JU VC was brought out from the faculty premises and ended at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha after parading different streets of the campus. The daylong programme included a puppet show, staging drama and cultural function and a photography exhibition.

JU was established on Aug 20 in 1970 and its academic activities formally began on Jan 12, 1971 with 4 departments, 21 teachers, 150 students and 3 residential halls, according to sources.

Now, the university has more than 14,500 students, 672 teachers, 35 departments under six faculties and four institutes for special research and training.
