Special measures to manage Ijtema traffic

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has fixed parking places and diversion points to manage traffic during Bishwa Ijtema (Muslim's Congregation) on the bank of the river Turag at Tongi on the outskirts of Dhaka city. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Railway has announced to run 24 special trains during the first phase of Ijtema (Jan 12-14), local media reports said on Thursday (Jan 11).

In the instruction, the DMP designated several points to be used for vehicles coming from several districts to join Ijtema. These are: Gausul Azam Avenue, Sonargaon Janapath Square to Diabari Khalpar, Uttara sector 12 Shah Makhdum Avenue, vacant spaces in Uttara sectors 16 and 18, Pratyasha Housing, Dhaur Bridge crossing, and vacant spaces in Nikunja-1 and Nikunja-2.

However, Police banned parking on and along the roads during Ijtema between Rainbow crossing and Dhaur Bridge via Abdullahpur and between Rampura Bridge and Pragati Sarani. The DMP fixed diversion at Mohakhali crossing, Hotel Radisson gap, Pragati Sarani, Kuril Flyover loop-2, Dhaur Bridge and entrance of Uttara sector 18 adjacent to Beribadh points, only in Akheri Munajat (final prayer)) day on Jan 14 from 4:00 a.m.

They also requested all -- except vehicles carrying airport’s operations and crews, fire service employees, law enforcing personnel and ambulances -- to avoid the Airport Road and use Mohakhali-Bijoy Sarani-Mirpur-Gabtoli route on Jan 14.

Under the management of DMP's traffic north division, four microbuses will be at the Nikunja-1 residential area's gate from 4:00 a.m. to bring in and out passengers going abroad and coming back on Jan 14.

The railway will operate 24 special trains on Jan 12-14, said a press release issued by the railways ministry on Wednesday. BR will operate trains on Jamalpur-Tongi route on Jan 12 and Jan 13. On Jan 12, it will operate two trains on Dhaka-Tongi and Tongi-Dhaka routes and on the following day, it will operate a special train on Laksam-Tongi route.

Railway will operate 20 special trains on Jan 14. These are: seven up Munajat special trains, a Tongi-Akhaura-Laksam special train, a Tongi-Akhaura special train, four Tongi-Mymensingh and seven Tongi-Dhaka special trains. Besides, all inter-city trains will stop at Tongi railway station for two minutes till the day after Akheri Munajat.

On Jan 14, Suborno Express, Mohua Express, Turag-1 to Turag-4 and DEMU train service on Dhaka-Tongi, Dhaka-Jaidebpur and Dhaka-Narayanganj routes will be closed but Mohanagar Express will operate its' service. The BR would offer similar services during the second phase of Ijtema, which will be held on Jan 19-21.
