Shakib gets best sportsman award

Cricket all rounder Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Sportsperson of the Year 2017 by the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA), local media reports said.

The award giving ceremony was held at the Hotel Sonargoan in the city on Saturday (Jan 6). Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed handed over the awards and the certificates to the winners. BSPA president Mostafa Mamun chaired the function, while players, organizers, and invited guests joined it. Saba Nayek of World Sports Journalists Association, sports organizer Tarafder Ruhul Amin, former cricket captain Rakibul Hasan, Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury, Abu Sadek, Shamima Sattar Mimu and Kamrunnahar Dana, were present, among others.

Shakib also recieved the the best cricketer award, while Arnab awarded for the best shooter category, and Jafar Iqbal recieved award as the best footballer. The winners of other categories are – Enamul Hossain Rajb (chess), Sonom Sultana Shoma (table tennis), Junaina Ahmed (swimming), Mohammed Salahuddin (cricket coach), Mahfuza Akhter Kiron (organizer). Special honours goes to Abdus Salam Murshedy and Badal Roy, while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza got Popular Choice Award.

The renowned association of the sports journalist had been awarding the sportspersons, organisers and related people for a long time. This year, the awards were given in a total of 14 categories.
