National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md. Nazibur Rahman has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister. The 58-year-old Nazibur succeeds Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, whose tenure will end on Dec 31, local media reports said. The public administration ministry issued a circular in this regard on Sunday (Dec 31).
Kamal, appointed principal secretary on Nov 27 last year, was set to retire in December the same year. But he accepted the offer of a one-year contractual appointment.
Najibur Rahman was born on Dec 31 in 1960 in Sunamganj. A 1982 batch Bangladesh Civil Services officer, he worked at the forest and environment ministry and the Planning Ministry's statistics and informatics division prior to his job as the NBR chief. He also served as director general of the Department of Environment.
Nazibur is scheduled to go into the leisure period before his retirement (LPR) on Dec 30, 2019.
