BTV turns 54

National television channel Bangladesh Television (BTV) has stepped into 54 years on Monday (Dec 25). To celebrate its anniversary, a day-long programme was organized in the main building of the channel.

The celebration began with cutting a cake on first hour of Dec 25. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and Information Minister Hasan Haque Inu were present as the chief guests, while Director General of BTV Harun-Ur-Rashid, Deputy Director General (Programme) Surath Kumar Sarkar, among others, were present on the occasion. Producer Mahbuba Ferdous coordinated the whole event.

After cutting the cake, Subir Nandi, Farida Parveen, Indramohan Rajbongshi, Kiran Chandra Roy, Chandana Mazumder, Shahnaz Belly, Smaran, Susmita, among others, rendered songs in the programme.

BTV has launched their official YouTube channel named 'BTV YouTube' under the supervision of the channel's new division, Social Media Wing. Apart from streaming the current programmes live, BTV YouTube will also stream the prominent and original old tele-dramas, songs and magazine programmes of the channel from the past days.

According to several reports, in the initial stage, the tele-dramas which could be found on TV YouTube are – 'Bohubrihi', 'Sangshoptak', 'Aishob Din Ratri’ and 'Dhakay Thaki' etc. Other Popular programmes will also be added later on.

BTV started its journey on Dec 25 in 1964 in the name of Dhaka Television, first of its kind in the subcontinent. Dhaka Television launched its test transmission from a small floor of DIT Building. Later, it was renamed as Bangladesh Television in 1972, just after the independence of the country in 1971.
