BTV celebrating 53rd anniversary

The state-run television channel Bangladesh Television (BTV) is celebrating its 53rd founding anniversary on Monday (Dec 25) with a range of special programmes.

BTV started its journey on Dec 25 in 1964 in the name of Dhaka Television, first of its kind in the subcontinent. Dhaka Television launched its test transmission from a small floor of DIT Building. Later, it was renamed as Bangladesh Television in 1972, just after the independence of the country in 1971.

Apart from broadcasting news, BTV gained popularity among the people through airing different kinds of programmes including plays, feature films, education, magazine programmes and documentaries.

Marking the day, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury greeted the officials, staff and artistes of the television channel, local media reports said.
