The new Snapchat app is out, and the company says its current design is aimed at bringing in older users. In the face of competition from rivals such as Facebook and its photo platform Instagram, Snapchat also hopes to inspire its users with a dynamic Friends page, where contacts are constantly rearranged with the help of artificial intelligence.
Instagram has copied several popular Snapchat appearances and has achieved achievement with them across a larger user base, proving that Snapchat need not be limited to its traditionally young following. The mixing of videos and photos from friends with content from publishers on social media often causes bewilderment and also facilitates the spread of fake news, argues the co-founder and chief executive of US social media company Snap, Evan Spiegel.
Users will see the camera view first when launching the new Snapchat app. The Friends page will be advertised to its left, the media content to its right. Snap had announced an overhaul of the app in response to weak quarterly figures.
