Annisul Huq, Dhaka City Mayor dies at 65

The Mayor of Bangladesh’s Capital, Dhaka City Corporation (North,) breathes his last at the age of 65 yesterday. He was fighting with the brain disease for last four months at London Hospital. Annisul has been elected as the Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation on last April 2015. He was a successful business man as well as a prominent Media personality. He is the founder chairman of his own organization Mohammadi Group consists of nine export-oriented companies since 1986. He served as the president of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association(BGMEA) from 2005 to 2006 and Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) from 2008 to 2010. He has graduated in Economics from Rajshahi University. He starts his career from the foremost readymade garments, Desh Garments.

His wife Mrs. Rubana Huq is also a very successful woman entrepreneur, journalist, writer and social worker. His son, Boston’s Bentley University graduate, Navidul Huq is also a prominent businessman. One of his two daughters, Wamiq Umaira is currently serving in International Labor Organization (ILO), Geneva, Switzerland. Another daughter, Tanisha Huq is also serving in his business after completing her USA graduation.

One of the three brothers of Annisul's, General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq, the current chief of Bangladesh Army. Among others Mr. Iqbal is a physician and Mr. Helal is US Navy Captain as both are settled in USA.

Annisul supported by current ruling party, Bangladesh Awami League, had promised to make Dhaka a clean, safe and ‘smart’ city in his election manifesto. His remarkable initiatives and actions have popularized him among the city dwellers within short period of time. 

His body will be returned in his favorite city, Dhaka on this Saturday  (Dec 2). He will be buried in his initiated newly decorated Banani Graveyard, after the Namaz-e Janaja at Army Stadium in same day. The whole nation is heavy in sorrow on his such early demise.
