Prince Harry designed engagement ring using Diana's diamonds

Prince Harry designed engagement ring using Diana's diamonds

Prince Harry not only got the girl, he also designed Meghan Markel's engagement ring, using two diamonds belonging to his late mother, Princess Diana, according to media reports.

As the world swoons over Prince Harry's engagement to Meghan Markle, it has been revealed that the 33-year-old prince also designed the sparkler he proposed with. Prince Harry reportedly designed the three-diamond ring with the help of royal jewelers, Cleave and Company.

The engagement ring includes two diamonds that belonged to Princess Diana. It features two diamonds from the collection of his late mother, who died in 1997 when Harry was 12.

They flank a central diamond from Botswana. Harry has visited the African country many times since childhood, and it's also the country the couple visited a few months ago to celebrate Ms Markle's birthday.

The stones are mounted on a band of gold, and the ring was made by Cleave and Company, official jewelers to Queen Elizabeth II.

A beaming Ms Markle, in a white belted coat, posed for photographers wearing the ring on Monday (Nov 27), hours after the couple's engagement was announced.

British diamond experts have suggested the ring could have cost in the region of $350,000. When his older brother William proposed to Kate Middleton, he used Diana's engagement ring.
