Ekushey Padak-winning Nrityaguru (dance expert) Rahiza Khanam Jhunu died at a city hospital on Sunday (Nov 26). She was 75. Jhunu, also the vice-president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party's cultural wing Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS), breathed her last at Labaid Hospital in the morning, local media reports said.
Earlier, she was admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU) of the hospital on Nov 14 with diabetes, kidney and heart ailments. Later, she was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) following deterioration of her condition.
The noted dance personality had served as the principal of Bulbul Academy for Fine Arts (BAFA) for a long time. Wife of former MP late Amanullah Chowdhury, Rahija Khanam Jhunu left behind two sons and two daughters to mourn her death.
BNP Chirperson Khaleda Zia and its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir condoled the death.
She will be buried at her family graveyard at Bhaluka in Mymensingh on Monday (Nov 27).
