4th NASA Space Apps Challenge Bangladesh successfully came to an end with grand prize giving ceremony.

NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 has been organized by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), supported by BASIS student’s forum.

This year 2,000 participants have submitted their project. Out of them top 40 teams are selected for the Hack-a-Thon. On Oct 19-20 top 40 teams have fought in 36 hours long Hack-a-Thon.

After 36 hours Hack-a-Thon, the prize giving ceremony took place on Saturday (Oct 21). Posts, Telecommunications & ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar graced the occasion as chief guest. 

At the prize giving ceremony BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, Senior Vice-President Farhana A Rahman, Vice-President (Admin) Shoeb Ahmed Masud, BASIS Vice President (Finance) Mushfiqur Rahman, BASIS Director Tamzid Siddiq Spondon, NASA Space Apps Challenge Convener & BASIS Director Didarul Alam, and Joint Convener Ariful Hasan Opu were present.

At the opening speech of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 Bangladesh Convener said, this year we have sorted out top 40 projects among 2,000 projects. The best eight have been got the chance to compete at the international phase.

Last year among 220 cities all over the world, Bangladesh obtained a 3rd and 5th place. We are hoping to exceed the expectation this time.

Regarding NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 BASIS President said, NASA Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration focused on space exploration that takes place over 48-hours in 250 cities around the world. Its main goal is to find out the innovative solution to solve the world's global problems by ensuring the participation of everyone including technologists, scientists, designers, artists, educators, entrepreneurs etc.

Joint Convener of NASA Space Apps Challenge said, this year NASA has announced six challenge categories comprising 20 sub-categories. Besides, our young and talented scientists will work on the categories like weather, volcanoes, mars and many more. 

Bangladesh is constantly making progress for the past four years, we are hopeful that Bangladesh’s flag will be uploaded much higher this year.  

At the grand award ceremony Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology Minister said, youngs will lead tomorrow’s Digital Bangladesh. Through the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 BASIS has created a wonderful platform to showcase the talent of our youngster’s. Last year we obtained two places in world’s top 10. We are hopeful to do better this year.

It is to be noted that this year, NASA has organized this event in 250 cities globally. From Bangladesh, nine cities (Dhaka, Sylhet, Chattogram, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, and Cumilla) have participated in this Global Hack-a-Thon.

This year’s campaign involved approximately 50 lac students virtually and approximately 1,00,000 students will take part physically in this event.

Dhaka - Champion: Team Game Changer; Runners-up: Team Planet Kit
Chattogram - Champion Team Queue; Runners-up: Team Matra
Cumilla - Champion: Team Photon; Runners-up: Team MetaCoders
Rangpur- Champion: Team HSTU Matroid
Sylhet- Champion: Team Olik
