Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof M Akhtaruzzaman said the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections will be held within March of 2019. The voter list for the polls will be formulated in October this year, the VC added.
Prof M Akhtaruzzaman said it to reporters after holding a meeting with different student organizations on Sunday (Sep 16) at the university’s Abdul Matin Chowdhury virtual classroom.
DU Pro-VCs (Academic and Administration), the treasurer, the proctor, assistant proctors, provosts, and hall wardens joined the meeting chaired by VC Prof M Akhtaruzzaman, local media reports said.
President and general secretary of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), president and secretary of BCL’s DU unit, president and general secretary of the central committee and DU unit of Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal (JCD), president and secretary of the central committee and DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU), Bangladesh Chhatra Federation and different-left-leaning organisations, among others, were present in the meeting.
The last DUCSU election was held in 1990.
Student organizations, especially the left-leaning ones, have long been demanding the election.
