Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid last respect to Bangladesh Awami League lawmaker from Khulna-4 constituency S M Mostafa Rashidi Suja by placing wreaths on his coffin. A Namaz-e-Janaza of Suja was held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday (Jul 29). After placing the wreath, the premier stood in solemn silence for a while as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the deceased, local media reports said.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also paid homage to Suja by laying a wreath on his coffin. Wreaths were also placed on behalf of President Md. Abdul Hamid and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad.
Ministers, lawmakers, senior leaders of different political parties and officials and employees of the Jatiya Sangsad attended the janaza.
Suja, a former Jatiya Sangsad whip and general secretary of Khulna district unit of Awami League, died at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Thursday (Jul 26), at the age of 68.
He was suffering from kidney ailment for a prolonged period. He was underwent a kidney transplantation in November, 2017 at the same hospital as his two kidneys were damaged.
Suja was elected MP three times from Bangladesh Awami League in 1991, 1996 and 2014.
