Fakhar Zaman sets new ODI record

Fakhar Zaman's remarkable start to his international career has seen one of the last remaining one-day international batting records set in the 20th century erased from the record books. In just his 18th innings, Fakhar notched his 1,000th run with a boundary through the off-side in the final match of Pakistan's ODI series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on Sunday (Jul 22).

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman becomes the fastest cricketer to reach 1000 ODI runs as he achieved the feat in just 17 innings beating the previous record of Sir Viv Richards who reached 1000 ODI runs in 21 innings.

Pakistan chose to bat first after winning the toss in the 5th ODI against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday and the left-handed opener started the day being 20 runs shy of the 1,000-run mark, just two days after he became Pakistan’s first double centurion in ODI cricket and sixth overall.

With an average greater than 75, Fakahar booked his place in the record books as the fastest batsman to reach 1000 runs after scoring 20 runs against Zimbabwe.

The left-handed opener remains not out on 42 from 54 balls as Pakistan score 92 for no loss after 15 overs.
