The capital city today witnessed heavy rainfall (55 mm until noon) and a light nor'wester with wind speeding 63 kmh. According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the highest wind velocity was 76 km per hour in Dhaka. The highest rainfall was recorded 69 mm in Mymensingh. The nor'wester may continue throughout the season.
Besides, the BMD office issued a warning message predicting heavy rainfall with gusty or squally wind in 48 hours ending at 10 a.m. on Tuesday (May 1).
Very heavy rainfall with gusty or squally wind is likely to occur over regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Dhaka, Cumilla and Noakhali during the next 48 hours.
According to the eye witnesses, heavy rain swept through the capital in the morning and inundated many of the major roads of the city. However, it could create less suffering to the city dwellers as the day is a public holiday.
