Quota leaders give govt ultimatum to publish gazette

Quota reformist student leaders announced they will wage a fresh movement if the government doesn’t issue the gazette on cancelling quota system in government jobs by April. They made the announcement a press briefing before the central library of Dhaka University on Thursday (Apr 26).

The student leaders also demanded to withdraw all the cases filed against unnamed persons over the quota reform movement, local media reports said.

Earlier this month, the country witnessed a widespread movement of students of public and private universities across the country, demanding reforms to the quota system.

Amid the protest, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Apr 11 announced scrapping of the quota system in public service recruitment.
