Khaleda taken to BSMMU for medical tests

Khaleda taken to BSMMU for medical tests

Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from the Old Central Jail at Najimuddin Road for medical tests. An ambulance carrying BNP chief reached the hospital around 11.30 a.m. on Saturday, local media reports said citing sources.

A cabin at BSMMU has been made ready for the former Prime Minister at the request of jail authorities, said BSMMU sources.

Khaleda Zia fell sick in the jail on Mar 29 and postponed a scheduled meeting with its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

On Apr 1, the government formed a medical team comprising four professors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to examine her health condition and ensure her treatment in jail.

On Feb 8, a special court here sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
