BNP demands Khaleda’s immediate release

BNP demands Khaleda’s immediate release

Expressing concern over Begum Khaleda Zia’s sudden illness in jail, Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday (Mar 30) demanded immediately release of their party Chairperson for her better treatment either at home or abroad.

“We are worried about Khaleda Zia’s health. She should be freed immediately. We demand her unconditional release so that she can receive necessary treatment either at home or abroad”, local media report said quoting BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as saying.

Mirza Fakhrul came up with the remarks at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan Central office. Replying to a question, he said they will take steps for ensuring better treatment for Khaleda after her release from her jail either at home or abroad as per her wish.

Fakhrul's a scheduled meeting with Khaleda was also postponed on Thursday as she suddenly fell sick in Nazimuddin Road Old Central Jail.

On Feb 8, a special court here sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Khaleda, a 73-year-old former Mrime Minister, was taken to the old central jail minutes after the verdict had been delivered.
