Bangladesh Nationalist Party has suspended a rally it planned at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Thursday (Mar 29) as police have not responded to its three petitions for permission. The party organised an ‘‘emergency’’ media conference at its headquarters at Naya Paltan on Wednesday (Mar 28) to announce its decision. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed made the announcement, local media reports said.
On Wednesday a three-member delegation of BNP, led by its standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, called on Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in his office at Bangladesh Secretariat to seek permission to hold the rally.
However, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday granted BNP to stage its rally at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) on Mar 30.
