Eminent writer Professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, who was stabbed by a youth at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Mar 3, has been released from the hospital. Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) released the SUST professor on Wednesday (Mar 14). From the hospital, Prof Iqbal went to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to fly to Sylhet, local media reports said.
The attacker, Foyzur, 25, stabbed in the head of Zafar Iqbal from behind with a sharp weapon at Mukta Mancha on the campus around 5:30 p.m. while the writer was enjoying a programme. He was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital immediately after the incident. Later, he was taken to CMH following the direction of the prime minister for proper treatment.
The attacker was caught red-handed and given a good beating on the spot and handed over to the police.
