DU sculpture dept celebrates 55th anniversary

The sculpture department of faculty of fine arts of Dhaka University celebrated its 55th anniversary through a day-long programme held on FFA premises on Friday (Feb 16). The day-long programme featured an open air sculpture show, discussion, alumni reunion and others.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor professor Dr Mohammad Akhteruzzaman inaugurated the programme in the morning. Among others, sculpture department honourary professor artist Hamiduzzaman Khan and faculty of fine arts dean artist Nisar Hossain were present at the inauguration programme.

Sculpture department was opened in 1963. Since its founding the department has produced many renowned sculptors who have produced many internationally acclaimed works.

Following the inauguration, present and former students of the department brought out a colourful procession from FFA premises.

The open air sculpture show displayed sculptures in diverse mediums done by around 50 students and teachers of the department in the last five decades.

Wood and metal sculptures by Hamiduzzaman Khan, Nasimul Khabir, Sanad Kumar Biswas, Prince Kumar Shil, Farzana Islam, Jahidul Haque and others were displayed at the event.

The day-long programme also included a cultural show comprising songs, dance recitals and others.
